Conrad F “Coonie” Wolbert, 91, of Edgewood Heights, New Bethlehem, and formerly of Clarion, died at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at McKinley Health Center at Laurelbrook Landing in Brookville, PA following a brief illness.

Born May 4, 1924 in Leeper, he was the son of the late Conrad S. and Theresa (Grolemund) Wolbert.

He was married June 27, 1953 to the former Elizabeth M. Barnett. She preceded him in death March 16, 1981.

Coonie graduated from Farmington High School where he played on the school basketball team. He also enjoyed playing on his local baseball team.

Conrad is a former World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946.

He was employed as a dragline operator and carpenter for many years. He retired in 1986 from Clarion University as a Utility Plant Operator.

Conrad was a past member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion prior to relocating to New Bethlehem due to declining health problems.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, gardening, and working Sudoku puzzles. He also enjoyed hunting and camping with his brother Earl. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Hetrick and husband, Martyn, of New Bethlehem and Joan Lemock and husband, George, of Erie. Also surviving are two sisters Stella Kelly of Hermitage and Louise Schmader of Clarion, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Conrad was preceded in death by seven brothers, Joseph, Clair, Raymond, Ralph, Arthur, Walter, and Earl Wolbert; and four sisters Cecelia Smith, Ruth Walters, Edith Baughman, and Grace O’Neill.

Friends and family may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Alcorn Funeral Home, 4065 Brookville St. Hawthorn, PA. 16230. A Prayer Vigil Service will be held Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Immediately following the Prayer Vigil Service, the Walter W. Craig Post 354 American Legion of New Bethlehem will honor their fallen comrade.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in New Bethlehem with the Reverend Father Sam Bungo, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Clarion.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to friends and caregivers at Edgewood Heights and Dr. Luderer who all became Conrad’s second family and provided exceptional care to him over the past 12 years. We would also like to say a special thanks to the staff of McKinley Health Center, all the wonderful speech, OT & PT therapists at the facility, and to In Home Solutions Hospice Care.
