Gladys M. Hetrick, 96, of New Bethlehem, died on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo. Born on September 5, 1919 in Climax, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Minnie (Wonderling) Dawson. She was married on June 8, 1940, to Warren H. Hetrick and he preceded her in death on August 11, 1987.

Gladys cleaned various homes and was a homemaker. She attended the Springside Baptist Church in New Bethlehem where she sang in the choir, was a youth leader in earlier years, and was a member of the Dorcas Ladies Group at the church. She had a love of hospitality for missionaries and ministers and cooked many tasty meals for them. She made beautiful quilts for her family and enjoyed family get togethers. She also enjoyed cooking and baked lots of cookies and fudge. She remembered all in her prayers and taught them to know Jesus.

She is survived by four children, Patricia Huffman and her husband, Harold of New Bethlehem, Karen Shaffer and her husband, Terry of New Bethlehem, Donald Hetrick of Winston Salem, N.C., and Janet Gourley and her husband, Larry of New Bethlehem, eleven grandchildren, Mark Huffman, Martin Huffman, Michael Huffman, Jeff Shaffer, Brian Shaffer, Kevin Shaffer, Todd Hetrick, Chad Hetrick, Scott Gourley, Eric Gourley, and Wendy Smith, thirty five great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Mildred Dawson of New Bethlehem.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was also preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Gourley, a daughter-in-law, Lorraine (Pacy) Hetrick, a sister, Florence Bish, and two brothers, John Dawson and Donald Dawson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday, May 11, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Springside Baptist Church in New Bethlehem. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at the church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Rick Jefferson officiating. Interment will be in the New Bethlehem Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to: Shepherds Ministries in care of the Springside Baptist Church, at P.O. Box 220 Distant, Pa. 16223. The family would also like to thank the Clarview Nursing and Rehab. Center and the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice staff for their compassionate and wonderful care.
