Dorothy Lucille Bowersox passed away at home with family on April 11, 2018.

She was born Dorothy Lucille LeVier in Brookville, PA, in 1925.

Dottie grew up in Middle Run near Hawthorn, PA. She attended the Church of God there.  She was graduated from New Bethlehem High School in 1944, after which she went to work to support the naval war effort in Newport News, VA.  She was married in 1947 to WWII infantry veteran George E. Bowersox, Jr. of New Bethlehem. Dottie and her family settled in Claymont, DE, in 1955 where they raised their sons and lived until 1988.  For many years Dottie served as the head store cashier at Sears in Wilmington, DE.  Later she and her husband moved to Newark, DE, where she worked and made many friends at the family’s lawn and garden shop.

Dottie had a great love for her family and for family genealogy. Over the years, she became the family genealogical historian for the Bowersox/Bauersachs family.  She traveled to courthouses throughout Pennsylvania to gather primary documents and information about her family.  Before her passing, Dottie donated her extensive genealogical collection to the Union County Historical Society in Lewisburg, PA.

Dottie is survived by her son Larry E. Bowersox and his wife, Susan, of Lancaster County, PA; her son George E. Bowersox, III, and his wife, Gail, of Newark, DE; along with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, George E. Bowersox, Jr., by her brother Edward LeVier, her sisters Leona LeVier Catchpole and Phyllis LeVier Haas.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 21st at the Alcorn Funeral Home, 4065 Brookville St., Hawthorn, PA, with visitation from 11AM-12PM and the funeral service at noon.  Pastor John Phillips will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made in Dorothy’s name to the Union County Historical Society, 103 South Second Street, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
