A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday 30, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in New Bethlehem, with Pastors Jodie Smith and Bud Davis co-officiating.

Larry E. Shumaker, 73, of New Bethlehem, died early Friday morning, September 15, 2017 at Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo. Born on September 7, 1944 in Punxsutawney, he was the son of the late Arnold E. and M. Marie (Martin) Shumaker. He was married on November 30, 1963 to Sandra L. (Coon) Shumaker and she preceded him in death on December 3, 2014.

Larry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Bethlehem. He was a teacher at Redbank Valley High School for 35 years. He helped coach Redbank Valley football for over 20 years and helped coach Redbank Valley baseball and track and field. Larry was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan especially the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He is survived by four children, Greg Shumaker and his wife Tawna of Hawthorn, Bryan Shumaker and his wife Joan of Distant, Corey Shumaker and his wife Rona, and Heidi Clinger both of New Bethlehem, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one sister, Sharon “Kay” Dinger and her husband Vaughn of Timblin.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Larry was also preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Snyder and Lois Jean Neal.

Larry’s wish was to be cremated.

A memorial service will be held on September 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in New Bethlehem with Pastors Jodie Smith and Bud Davis co-officiating. Interment will be in the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Smicksburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a memorial donation may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 234 Penn St., New Bethlehem, Pa. 16242.

The Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn is handling arrangements.
