Mary Evelyn “Pooh” Smith, 86, of Kittanning, formerly of New Bethlehem, passed away on Friday February 27, 2026, at Kittanning Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. She was born on February 13, 1940, to Franklin and Mary (Taranto) Bish in Mayport. Mary was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church, Fairmont City, and a lifetime member of the New Bethlehem Eagles Auxiliary. She worked as a bartender there for many years and worked a few years as a nurse’s aide at Jefferson Manor. She enjoyed playing Bingo, watching her “Stories” Soap Operas. Most of all she loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by a son, Jeffrey L. Anthony, New Bethlehem, a step-son, Kenneth Smith and wife Kim, Distant, five grandchildren Corey Yates, Shane Yates and wife Georgina, Sheena Hopper and husband George, Hailee Anthony and fiancé Keaton Ammerman, Mackenzie Smith and Garrett Carlson, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a son-in-law Richard Yates and a daughter-in-law Melanie Mann. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darl C. Smith in 2007, a daughter Debra Lee Yates, a son Rickie A. Anthony, siblings, Helen Ferris, Rose Copenhaver, Frank Taranto, and Vernon Bish. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Alcorn Funeral Home of Hawthorn has been entrusted with the arrangements. | |
