Wilbur Byers Smith, Jr., 87, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, passed away on Sunday morning, March 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Born on April 6, 1936, in Mayport, he was the son of the late Wilbur B. and Mary (Lucas) Smith, Sr. Wilbur proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked for the BF Goodrich Company in Akron, Ohio, Parker Hannifin in Cleveland, Ohio and Stratoflex in Fort Worth, Texas. He enjoyed golf and volunteering at Professional golf tournaments, playing cards, Sudoku puzzles, and square dancing. He married Caralee (Biery) Smith on June 18, 1960, and she survives. He is also survived by two children, Wendell Smith and his wife, Lori, of Northville, Michigan and Kathryn Danna of Sunbury, Ohio, two grandsons, Nicholas Smith and Luke Smith, twin sister, Mary Gleghorn and her husband, Dan, of Stow, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Shannondale from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024. The funeral service will follow at the church at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the Shannondale Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made in Wilbur’s name to the Zion Lutheran Church, 3117 Pine Run Road, Mayport, PA.16240.
