Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Bruce J. “Bud’ Evans died Friday, October 24, 2025 at the age of 95. Born on April 16, 1930, Bud was one of five children born to Bruce R. and Myrtle (Fawcett) Evans in Brookville. Bud was a brother to Dean Evans, Della Girt and an infant sister, Faye, and two half-brothers, Paul and Robert Smyers, all of whom preceded him in death. Bud also has two surviving siblings, Jean Keller of Brookville and Don Evans of Vero Beach, Fla. On July 7, 1951, Bud married the love of his life, Phyllis L. Evans. They enjoyed 70 years together until her death in October 2021. Bud was a loving father to two daughters, Kathy (Randon) Otte and Lori (Jack) Gareis; and grandpa to granddaughters, Evanne Gareis, Kaitlin (Adam) Myers and Alexandra Wolfe, and great-grandson, Westin Myers. He was also preceded in death by a foster daughter, Carma Songer, and a great-grandson, Connor Traister. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bud loved his country and was proud to serve during the Korean Conflict. He also took great pride in being the oldest living member of the Oak Ridge community and the former Oak Ridge United Methodist Church. Bud began his working years as a coal miner for his family-owned coal business, Evans Coal Company, which later became D and J Coal Company. His later years until retirement were spent as a laborer for Burns Construction Co. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Bud, with family topping the list. He was happiest when spending time with family, especially his three-year-old great-grandson, Westin. Whether around a campfire, at a church gathering or family functions, Bud never tired of sharing life stories for the enjoyment of everyone. A private graveside service at Mount Zion Ceremony celebrating Bud’s life is being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Bud’s name to Oak Ridge Community Church, 467 Salem Road, Mayport, PA 16240, or Redbank Valley Public Library, 720 Broad Street, New Bethlehem, PA 16242.
