Marilyn A. “Bertie” Watkins, 86, of New Bethlehem passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at her residence. Born on July 5, 1938, in Climax, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Mae (Horne) Hopper.

She married James C. Watkins on June 29, 1957, and he preceded her in death on July 18, 2015.

Bertie was a cook/dietary manager for Edgewood Heights in New Bethlehem.

She is survived by three children, James C. Watkins, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of New Bethlehem, Joey Connor and his wife, Carol, of Strattanville, and Jodi Shick and her husband, John, of New Bethlehem and daughter-in-law Carollyn McDonald of Hawthorn, seven grandchildren, Alison Watkins (Jeff), Alex Watkins (Krista), Dan McDonald, Brandy Davis (Chuck Stormer), Jamie McDonald (Billy Joe), Christopher Shick (Amanda), and Joshua Shick (Brianna), seventeen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, plus many adopted children and grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jim, she was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Watkins and a granddaughter, Trista Watkins.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.
Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Ryver officiating.
