Obituaries

Velma LaVene Lucas, 101, of New Bethlehem, passed away early Saturday morning, December 27, 2025, at the Clarion Hospital.

Born on July 20, 1924, in Porter Township, Clarion County, she was the oldest of four children of the late Thomas B. and Millie (Delp) Weeter.

She was married on May 18, 1945, to Robert E. Lucas and he preceded her in death on January 21, 2004.

Velma lived in the Leatherwood area most of her life while attending Leatherwood Church.

She worked throughout her life as a hair stylist, for Rola Company, and as an aide for Head Start in New Bethlehem, but her most important job was as a loving, wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by three children; Robert (Cathy) Lucas of Minerva, Ohio, Lenford (Marilyn) Lucas of Moseley, Virginia, and Tawnda Zameroski of Edinboro, seven grandchildren; Jeremy, Brandy, Chad, Brian, Marla, Abby, and Ally, and ten great grandchildren; Ashley, Jaret, Brodie, Gavin, Robert, Carter, Erin, Emily, Warren, and Maverick.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Electa Jean Hartle and her husband, Edward Pete, and Mary Lee Cunningham and her husband, Robert, a brother Dwight Weeter and his wife, Janice, and a son-in-law, Pat Zameroski.

There will be a private graveside service at Leatherwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday March 28, 2026 at 11 a.m at the Leatherwood Church.
