There will be a private graveside service at Leatherwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Such a wonderful woman. I loved talking to Velma at church. I can say she always showed her light. Whether at church or in public. She always made me smile. It was a blessing to know her.

I was so saddened to read this. Velma was always such a nice lady and so happy to see me when I would visit Leatherwood Church with my grandmother (Bernice Henry). When my Aunt (Janice Martz) passed away Velma made sure to come speak to me at her funeral, she didn’t think I remembered her…but I could never forget her. You all have my deepest sympathy.

Velma was a very special cousin to me. She was my idol. So positive, ambitious and always had a happy smile. My sincere sympathy to Neal,Cathy, Lenford, Marilyn, Tawnda and all the grandchildren. Love, Madelon (Pink)

Velma was not only an awesome neighbor in every possible way, she was a mentor and friend to anyone who took the effort to spend time with her. She was an absolute force of nature and lived a full and wonderful life of simplicity. She will be missed, not just by us, but by the whole community at large. Our heartfelt condolences to the entire Lucas family.
