In Loving Memory of Eddie Ray Doverspike
Eddie Ray Doverspike, 71, of New Bethlehem, passed away peacefully at his home on June 8, 2026. Born on June 13, 1954, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Eddie was the son of Charles “Pat” L. Doverspike and Iva V. (Himes) Doverspike. A graduate of Redbank Valley High School, class of 1972. Eddie spent many years driving coal trucks, earning the CB handle “Puppy,” a name many friends fondly remember. To know Eddie was to know laughter. He had a gift for storytelling, a quick wit, and a personality that could brighten even the darkest day. Whether he was sharing one of his endless stories, cracking a joke, offering a helping hand, or simply sitting with friends over a cold beer, Eddie made people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Eddie found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved photography, flying kites, gardening, playing the harmonica, collecting antique tools and trinkets, building benches, bird houses and other wood making activities, listening to his favorite music (jamming), hanging with friends, quality time with his daughter, hunting the woods for lady slippers, mushrooms, and other forest treasures, BMW motorcycles, and spending time in nature. He often referred to sitting quietly in the woods, listening to the sounds around him, as “wood bathing.” Those peaceful moments reflected his appreciation for the beauty of the world and the peace it could bring. More than anything, Eddie cherished the people in his life. Friends remember him as one of the kindest souls —generous with his time, always willing to help, and never far from a smile. Whether it was taking spontaneous road trips, sharing adventures and stories with friends, or simply being there when someone needed him, Eddie gave of himself freely. His laughter was contagious, his stories unforgettable, and his friendship a gift to all who knew him. Eddie is survived by his beloved daughter, Ivana R. Doverspike of Mayport; his siblings, Melvin Doverspike (Sandy), Madonna Shick (Richard), Gary Doverspike (Carol), Pamela Crissman (William), and Wendy Wyant (Mark); along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Vernon Doverspike, and two nephews Jeffery Doverspike and Ricky Shick. While his family and friends grieve the loss of his presence, they take comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind—the laughter shared, the adventures taken, the wisdom offered, and the love he gave so freely. Eddie was truly one of a kind, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
