Allen D. Byers, 72, passed away at his home in Shippenville on May 17, 2024.  He was a graduate of Clarion Area High School and Dubois Business School.

Allen was an Army veteran who was proud of his service to the country he loved.  He served with CO B 4th BN 6th Infantry in the Berlin Brigade from 1971 to 1973.  He was a member of the American Legion in Strattanville.

Allen loved the outdoors.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life.  If he wasn’t working or attending a family event, he was in the woods or his boat with family or friends.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jessie (Wagner) Byers, his brother, David Byers, two sisters, Ethel “Jo” Burdett and Phyllis Miles, a niece, Kathy Burdett, and a nephew, Sam Matthews.

Allen was devoted to his family, so he will be missed by many.  He is survived by his sister, Patricia Simmons and her son Robert Cleveland of Myrtle Beach.  Also surviving are his nephew, James Daniel(Tracy) Miles of Centreville, VA, and two nieces, Phyllis Burdett Hollobaugh of New Bethlehem and Heather(Ken) Reynolds of Leeper.  He was a devoted great-uncle to Madeline, Jacqueline, and Joseph Miles, Ian(Rachel) Hollobaugh, DNP, Katelyn(Matt) Brown and their children Harlyn and Colson, Rikki(Scott) Wagner and their children Adelyn, Wyatt, and Bryleigh, Jessi Reynolds, and Tyler Reynolds.

At his request, there will be no funeral service.  A private memorial service to celebrate a life well-lived will be held for family and close friends at a future date.  Donations can be made in his name to the Strattanville American Legion, the Shippenville VFD, or the Clarion VFD.

The family would like to thank Allen’s friends for all their support over the last couple of years.

The Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn is handling the arrangements.
