Alvin Eugene Carlson, 87, formerly of Clarion Limestone, died Monday afternoon, August 8, 2016 at McLeod Hospital in Florence, South Carolina after moving there to live with his daughter in Marion, South Carolina, in February of this year. Born on January 27, 1929 in Fairmount City, he was the son of the late Howard E. and E. Lucille (Smith) Carlson. He was married on October 28, 1953 to Frankie M. (Gerheim) and she preceded him in death on October 4, 2015.

Alvin served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He worked as an electrician for Owens-Illinois glass plant in Clarion. He was a part time police officer for New Bethlehm for many years. He was a member of the Limestone Area Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief for several years and was honored as Fireman of the Year in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 0066 of Clarion and the Moose Lodge in New Bethlehem,where he served as governor years ago.

He is survived by three children, Diana Wolbert of Lucinda, Gregory Carlson and his wife, Pam, of Lamar, S.C., and Melissa Carfley and her husband, Bryan, of Marion, S.C., eight grandchildren, Christopher Wolbert (Jamey), Rebecca Gilara (Michael), Adam Wolbert, Caleb Carlson (Sarah), Kelsey Carlson, Zachary Carfley, Alexa Carfley, and Ryan Carfley, six great grandchildren, Ethan, Aiden, Addison, Carson, Grant Alvin, and Anniston, and one sister, Shirley Quagliariello of Cumberland, MD. He is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Ramona Powell of Distant and Barbara Carlson of New Bethlehem, and a son-in-law, Norbert Wolbert of Shippenville.

In addition to his parents and wife, Frankie, Alvin was also preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert Carlson and Leon Carlson, and a brother-in-law, John Quagliariello.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 12, 2016, from 6 – 9 p.m. and on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from noon – 1 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Carol Brown officiating. Immediately following the funeral service the American Legion will honor their fallen comrade. Interment will be at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mahoning Township, Armstrong County.
