Bonnie Lee Heckathorn, 63, of New Bethlehem, died early Wednesday morning, June 17, 2015 at her residence. Born on October 18, 1951 in Franklin, she was the daughter of Clifford Lawrence Barnes and Helen Marjorie (Bargar) Heckathorn.  She married Rev. Roger A. Smith on August 7, 2010 and he survives.

Bonnie was a volunteer live-in caregiver for a big part of her life. She cared deeply for others.

She wrote two books by longhand. One was a spiritually based book over 500 pages. The other book was entitled “Bits and Pieces of What I Like and Who I Am”. Part of it had to do with various kinds of food and their brands. The second part was a brief history of her family. Part of her family came from Sicily. She was evidently related to the Prince Matchibeli family, the Chippileti’s and the Altobeli’s.

Bonnie knew and loved Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and felt the call of God for Christian Service. By correspondence, she completed Bible courses with a Bible College in Florida and in Illinois. She was ordained by a Christian Ministry in Texas. Her Bible is highlighted throughout with red highlighting especially the New Testament and the words of Jesus. She loved God, the Word of God, family and people. She met friends easily and remembered names.

Bonnie was a natural when it came to interior decorating. She had excellent ideas and exceptionally good taste. Clutter was no-no. She was a good homemaker and a good cook.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Roger A. Smith; a son, Rex L. Heckathorn; seven grandchildren, Corrina M. Smith, Marissa D. Coombs, Leah M. Heckathorn, Ferdinand C. Heckathorn, Robert L. Lawson, Cody L. Lawson and Brian S. Lawson; four great grandchildren, Rieland J. Heckathorn, Ella C. Heckathorn, Delyla A. Coombs and Alice M. Heckathorn Lawson and husband Robert; her father, Rev. Clifford L. Barnes (Elizabeth); four sisters, Judy A. Heckathorn, Marjorie A. Heckathorn, Patricia J. Heckathorn and Laura A. Heckathorn; and a brother, Rev. Robert M. Heckathorn.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen M. Heckathorn; step father, Ferdinand C. Heckathorn, Sr.; a daughter, Barbara A. Messina; and five brothers, Ferdinand C. Heckathorn, Jr., Marvin L. Heckathorn, James S. Heckathorn, Thomas J. Heckathorn and Donald E. Heckathorn.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 2 – 6 and on Sunday, June 21, 2015 from 1 – 2 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will follow on Sunday at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Jimmy Swogger officiating. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Oil City.

Bonnie suggested that memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph Church in Oil City or the St. Charles Church in New Bethlehem.
