Charles Robert Young, Sr., 85, of Fairmount City passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at his home following a sudden illness.

He was born on August 30, 1940, in Putneyville the son of the late Walter and Freda (Smith) Young.

He married Veronica M. “Cookie” (Melneck) Young on April 12, 1960, and she preceded him in death on January 27, 2004.

He worked as a mechanic for Stew’s Sales and Service and Reddinger Coal Company. He was a Lifetime member of the NRA and the Hawthorn Fire Department and a social member of the Pinecreek Fire Department. He also enjoyed carpentry, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his children, Charles R. Young, Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Corsica, William D. Young and his wife, Penny, of Sligo, Ronald E. “Fuzz” Young and his wife, Carol, of Brookville, and Betty “Lu Ann” Murray also of Brookville, grandchildren, Bobbie Jo (Jim) Confer, Sasha Young ( Fu Netzlof), Anson Young, Brady (Samantha) Young, and Jordan (Megan) Young, seven grandchildren, Casey Confer, Aubrey Young, Harper Young, Lilah Young, Teddy Young, Raelynn Young and Kolton Young, two brothers, H. John Young of Mercer and Frank Young of Jamestown and sister Catherine Reese of New Bethlehem.

In addition to his parents and wife Veronica he was preceded in death by a daughter, Freda Marie Young, four siblings, Betty Durney, Nancy Patterson, Margie Young (infant), and Arthur Young.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor John Kerr officiating.

Interment will take place in the Salem Cemetery in Frogtown.
