Clair Leon “Pete” Shick, 90, of Mayport, died on Thursday evening, March 5, 2015 at the Brookville Hospital. Born on September 21, 1924 in Sugar Valley, Armstrong County, he was the son of the late Jesse and Amanda (Rearick) Shick. On November 9, 1946, he married Mary E. (Bowersox) and they were married over 68 years.

He attended the First Church of God in New Bethlehem. He served his country during World War 2 with the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for Doverspike Coal Co., Darmac Coal Co. and Michuda Construction. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Shick of Mayport, five children, Richard Shick and wife Sharon of Punxsutawney; Patricia Shirey and husband Walt of Warriors Mark; Randy Shick and wife Deb of Mayport; Sandra Shick of New Bethlehem and Kim Shick and wife Michelle of Mayport; a daughter-in-law, Donna Shick of New Bethlehem; twenty grandchildren, Polly Mills and Dan Shick both of Punxsutawney; Jerry Shick, Jr. (Tricia) of Franklin; David Shick (Medina) of Turkey; Tim Shick (Jen) of Florida; Terry Shirey (Andrea) of New Bethlehem; Brian Shirey (Chrissy) of Parker; Chad Shirey (Shanelle) of Warriors Mark; Dawnyele Messinger (Tim) of Australia; Cory Shirey (Shayla) of Neshannack; Keith Shirey (Heather) of Hermitage; Jennifer Reddinger (Jeremiah) of Mayport; Kevin Shick of Mayport, Karen Sayers (Jesse) of New Bethlehem; Amanda Turner of Lynchburg, VA., Luke Shick (Katie) of Mayport; Doug Shick (Cori) of Forest, VA; Kent Shick, Josh Shick and Kimberly Shick all of Mayport; and twenty eight great grandchildren, Paige Mills, Madison Mills, McKenzie Shick, Christian Shick, all of Punxsutawney; Alyssa Shick, of Franklin; Jon Shick, Melissa Shick, both of Turkey; Colby Shick of Florida; Ashley Shirey, Nicole Shirey, Jenna Shirey all of New Bethlehem, Chase Shirey, Trenton Shirey, both of Parker; Elle Shirey, Lincoln Shirey, Presley Shirey, Palin Shirey all of Warriors Mark; Jared Messinger, Katie Messinger, Julianna Messinger, Lee Messinger, all of Australia; Walker Shirey of Neshannack; Devonney Neiswonger, Cian Shirey, Quinn Shirey, all of Hermitage; Parker Reddinger, Josephine Shick and Lane Shick all of Mayport.

In addition to both of his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Shick, a great grandchild, five sisters, Margaret Bish, Mildred Shirey, Mary Carrier, Kay Bell and Ruth Shick, and two brothers, Percy Shick and Roy Shick.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 6 to 9 and on Sunday, March 8, 2015  from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be on Monday, March 9, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor John Phillips and Pastor Ken Alt co-officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, the Walter W. Craig Post #354 American Legion of New Bethlehem will honor their fallen comrade. Interment will be in the Hawthorn Cemetery.
