Cora Ilene Martz, 86, of Ringgold, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday evening, April 16 at the Brookville Hospital. She was born on January 17, 1928, in New Bethlehem and was the daughter of Grant C. and Lillian I. (Schilling) Shaffer. She was married on October 31, 1947, to Robert V. Martz and he preceded her in death on May 9, 2004.

Cora was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Ringgold. She helped her husband on the farm milking cows and also sold Avon. She belonged to the L C W women’s group of the church and the Red Hats Society of New Bethlehem.

She is survived by three daughters, Beverly Blose of Punxsutawney, Bonnie Shick and her husband Carl of Porter, and Christine Snyder and her husband Bill of Mayport; one son, Vern Martz and his wife Jackie of North Haverhill, New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Rob Blose, Heather Weaver, Ryan Blose, Levi Martz and Zach Snyder; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Nola Samsel of Erie, Willovene Shumaker and her husband Cromer of Distant, and Mable McMaster and her husband Ron of New Bethlehem; one brother, Cecil Shaffer and his wife Marie of Berwick; and a sister-in-law, Jane Shaffer of New Bethlehem.

In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by both parents, a brother, Ray Shaffer, and a son-in-law, William Blose.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 18 from 1 – 4 and 7 – 9 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Joan Rousseaux officiating. Interment will be in the St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Ringgold Twp., Jefferson County.
