Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Earl R. “Jim” Martz, 80, of New Bethlehem, died Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born on September 4, 1936 in Ringgold, he was the son of the late Jay R. and Erma C. (Powell) Martz. On October 30, 1959 he married Janet (Heaton). Jim was a truck driver for H.M. Skinner, Allen Trucking, McCauley Trucking, and Stockdale Transport. He served his country in the United States Army from December 2, 1959 to November 30, 1965. He was a life member of the New Bethlehem Fire Department and a member of the Walter W. Craig Post # 354 of New Bethlehem American Legion. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, and hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed talking to people and telling stories. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Martz of New Bethlehem, three children, Jeffrey Martz and his wife Lisa, Jill Magagnotti, both of New Bethlehem, and Jerry Martz and his wife, Jodi of Hawthorn, seven grandchildren, Shannel Dausch (Greg), Nick Magagnotti (Selena), Brady Martz (Daphne), Jerrett Magagnotti (Lacey), Alexandrea Magagnotti, Hunter Martz, and Hudson Martz, and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Miller and her husband, Daniel of Grand Junction, AZ., and Patricia Heyer and her husband, Robert, of Red Bank, NJ, and a brother, Raymond L. Martz and his wife, Patricia of New Bethlehem. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Eugene Martz. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Church of God in Fairmount City (Alcola) with Pastor Mike Hicks officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, the Walter W. Craig Post # 354 of New Bethlehem American Legion will honor their fallen comrade.
