Hila R. Bates, 93, of Distant, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday March 10, 2024, at Clarion Health and Rehabilitation in Clarion.

She was born September 16, 1930, to Owen and Emma (Doverspike) Shreckengost in Mayport.

She married Richard E. Bates Sr., on August 22, 1947. He passed away on March 14, 1999. She was an active member of Distant Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, knitting, crocheting, and cooking. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by a son Richard “Dick” Bates and wife Cathy, New Bethlehem, three grandchildren, Tisha Neiswonger and husband Scott, Lacy Hoffman and significant other Alex Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Maurice, Wayne, Ted and a sister, Evelyn.

Friends will be received on Thursday March 14, 2024, from 4:00 PM until the time of service at 7:00 PM at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn with Pastor David Westover officiating.

Interment will take place at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Oak Ridge.
