Lawrence Wilfred Butler, 89, of Hawthorn passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his own home.

Born September 19,1934 in Salamanca, NY.  He was the son of the late Lawrence and Catherine (Fuller) Butler. He graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1952 and served in the United States Navy for 2 years before returning to marry the love of his life Anna Ruth (Mauk) in October of 1957.

He worked for Pramco, Rolo Jensen, Toy Drilling and finally retired from the PA Fish and Game Commission. He was a member of the Hawthorn Rod & Gun Club.

He is survived by his wife Anna Ruth Butler of Hawthorn, a son Larry E. Butler of Punxsutawney, a daughter Patty Shreckengost and her husband, Lyle, of Mayport, four grandchildren, Christina L. Bergreen and significant other, Scott Mohney, of Punxsutawney, Jess Weeter and her husband, Ross, of Shelocta, Lawrence W. Smith of Meadville, and Zachary O’dell of Indiana, three great-grandchildren, Bryce and Breeana Bergreen and Kane Weeter, and a sister, Marge Leap of Clearfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin L. Shreckengost, a sister, Ivis Voyton and four brothers, Raymond (Jimmy) Butler, Robert Butler, Donald Butler and Richard Butler.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Ryver officiating.

Immediately following the funeral service, the Walter W. Craig Post #354 of New Bethlehem American Legion will honor their fallen comrade.

Interment will take place in the Hawthorn Cemetery.
