Willovene “Willie” Shumaker, 94, of New Bethlehem went home to be with Jesus on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Clarion Hospital. Born June 25, 1929, in South Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late Grant C. and Lillian Irene (Shilling) Shaffer.

She married Cromer A. “Buck” Shumaker on January 14, 1950, and he preceded her in death on May 28, 2015.

Willie was a member of the Oakland Church of God in Distant where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School to the 2–3-year-olds, and she also was a member of the churches WCG. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and loved the sun and beach.

She is survived by four children, Jodi and husband Melvin Lufsey of New Bethlehem; Reba and husband Rod Smith of New Bethlehem; Marc and wife Mary Don Shumaker of Midlothian, VA; Jack and wife Carol Shumaker of LaOtto, IN; grandchildren: Curt (Angie) Lufsey, Erin (Dee) Bell, Jill (Dale) Gruver, Chad (Rose) Smith, Guy (Kinsley) Smith, Todd (Brittany) Smith, Grant (Francesca) Shumaker, Scott Shumaker, Jennie Shumaker, Luke (Jess) Shumaker, Zachary (Christine) Shumaker, and Nathanael (Jael) Shumaker, great-grandchildren: Cole and Shea Lufsey, Logan (Olivia), Ethan, Gwyneth, and Eva Wadding, Declan and Neely Gruver, Elsie, Everett, and Ezra Smith, Elam, Adler, Eiley, and Lowen Smith, and Willow, Sophia, and Tucker Smith.

In addition to her parents and her husband of 65 years, she was preceded in death by a great-great -grandson, Luke David Wadding, two brothers, Ray Shaffer, and Cecil Shaffer, three sisters, Nola Samsel, Cora Martz, and Mable McMaster.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oakland Church of God in Distant. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. at the church with Pastor Jimmy Swogger officiating.

Interment will take place in the Oakland Cemetery in Distant.

The Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn is handling the arrangements.
