Obituaries

Joseph F. Unger, 79, of Templeton passed early Saturday morning April 25, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 25, 1947, in Kittanning, a son of the late Frederick T. and Elva (Lewis) Unger.

Joe married his high school sweetheart Donna L. Copenhaver on February 12, 1966, they shared 60 years of fun, happiness and love.

He retired from INDSPEC Chemical after 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting with his boys and grandsons and spending time at the cabin. He also loved watching all the Pittsburgh sports teams.

He is survived by his wife Donna and his four children, Shawn Unger and his wife, Dina, of Tidal, Bret Unger also of Tidal, Ginger Zacherl and her husband, Randy, of Sligo and Tricia Briscoe and her husband, Jason, of Monongahela, seven grandchildren, Joe (MaKayla) Unger, Jake (Clarissa) Unger, Joshua (fiancé Julia) Briscoe, Jordan Briscoe, Ashley Briscoe, Carson Unger, and Kylie Unger, six great-grandchildren, Jayce, Gaige, Teagan, Jaxx, Ryker, and Griffyn, and a brother Ed Unger, of Alta Vista, Viriginia

Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday April 29, 2026, at the St. Richards Catholic Church in Rimersburg with Father Jason Feigh serving as celebrant.

Interment will take place in the Rimer Hill Cemetery.
