Robert Vern Adams, 86, of New Bethlehem, went peacefully to see the Lord on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville after an extended illness.

Robert was born May, 23, 1929 in Hawthorn, the son of the late Lawrence H. and Helen O. (Smith) Adams. He was a lifetime resident of the Hawthorn and New Bethlehem areas. Robert married Della Marie (Smith) on June 25, 1954 at the Glade Run Presbyterian Church in Dayton.

Robert worked for Heffner Brothers before serving with the army. He served with the US Army from April 1951 to March 1953. He was stationed mostly in Alaska and loved telling his tales of the cold and all the adventures they endured. He then went to work for Tionesta Sand and Gravel as a truck driver and later a heavy equipment operator with them. After his retirement from Tionesta Sand and Gravel, he became a volunteer with the Redbank Valley Volunteer Ambulance Company. He was a driver and EMT, it was a perfect fit for a very active man in retirement.

Robert’s pride and joy was his grandchildren. He and Della attended endless Little League, soccer and basketball games as well as track meets. They also sat through many 4H horse shows and were taxi service and babysitters to all.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Della M. Adams of New Bethlehem, four children; Darla Hinderliter and her husband Russell of New Bethlehem, Kent Adams of Clearfield, Brenda Adams of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Kevin Adams and his wife Linda of Mayport, eight grandchildren; Amber (Ben) McCarney, Dustin (Kala) Adams, Lauren (Nathan) Sams, Robert (Amanda) Adams, Wendi (Ronnie) Miller, Jake Hinderliter, Paige Adams and Luke Hinderliter. He was also blessed with five great grandchildren; Hannah and Jude McCarney, Blair Adams, Cyrus Sams, Cadence and Gage Adams, and a sister, Joanne Imholf and her husband George of Arnold, Maryland.

Robert was a member of the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church where he served as Trustee and Elder.

Robert inherited from his father, his love of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The trips with his sons to games were a special treat to him.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 9, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. There will be viewing on Thursday from 10 – 11 a.m. with the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 403 Penn St. New Bethlehem, with Pastor Sarah Heppenstall officiating.
