Rosetta “Sue” Shirey “68” died of a heart attack in her home in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, February 8, 2018.

Born on June 24, 1949 in Punxsutawney, she was the daughter of the late Clement Emerson Shirey, Sr. and Hiawatha B. (Hartman) Shirey. She is survived by a sister Peggy (Shirey) Steffy and a brother Clement Emerson Shirey, Jr.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a half-brother, Donald Troup and a half-sister, Jean (Troup) Shoemaker.

Sue graduated from Redbank Valley High School in 1967. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Geneva College in 1971 and a Master of Science degree in 1979 with a major in Medical Technology from California State University.

Sue was an employee at John Hopkins University Education Center for 34 years. She was an expert in blood transfusion technology. Sue published many research papers on blood diseases including sickle cell anemia, leukemia, and difficulties occurring within the blood during pregnancy.  Her life was dedicated to alleviating pain and suffering of mankind.

She will be missed by her family.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Nazarene in Hawthorn, PA on Saturday, March 24 at 11 AM, with Pastor Lois Moranville officiating. A dinner will follow in the Nazarene Fellowship Center.
