Bonelle J. Travis, 94, of New Bethlehem, died Saturday evening, February 20, 2016 at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo. Born on January 9, 1922 in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Alvin James and Gladys LeVina (Klepfer) Smith. She was married on December 8, 1937, to Merle Lamison Travis and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2004.

She worked for 24 years at the Redbank Valley High School in the cafeteria. She attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Clarion for many years, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She then attended the First Church of God in New Bethlehem. Bonelle loved the Lord with all her heart and prayed without ceasing for those in need. She loved attending prayer meetings. She also was an avid gardener and had quite a green thumb.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Greenawalt of Fort Pierce, Florida and Cathy McNaughton and her husband, Michael of Rimersburg, five grandchildren, Weston Crawford and his wife Karen of New Bethlehem, Jennifer Crawford of Pittsburgh, Douglas Greenawalt of Sligo, Deborah Snyder and friend Jessie Smith of Knox, and Darlene Greenawalt of Fort Pierce, Florida, thirteen great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren, a sister, Shirley Boyd of Hampton, Virginia, and many loved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Bonelle was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Crawford, two sisters, Janet Hummel and Helen Sublinsky, and three brothers, Chester Smith, Russell Smith, and Homer Smith.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 23, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, February 24, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of God in New Bethlehem with Pastor John Phillips officiating. Interment will be in the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made in Bonelle’s name to the First Church of God at 418 Brian Lane New Bethlehem, Pa. 16242 or Cornerstone Church of Clarion Filipino Orphanage Mission at 3655 East End Road Shippenville, Pa. 16254.
