Smith, 88, of New Bethlehem (Distant), passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Clarion Hospital. Born on September 11, 1936, in Putneyville, he was the son of the late Ivan Donald and Irene Ruth (Crissman) Smith. He was married in 1961 to Rebecca Joanne (Kunselman) Smith, and she preceded him in death on February 8, 2022. Fred worked at Pullman Standard in Butler, and in later years, at Walmart in Kittanning. He was a member of the Distant Baptist Church. He enjoyed fixing up old cars, trucks, and motorbikes. He is survived by a sister, Agnes Kammerdiener of Distant, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Joanne, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Merle Smith and John Ivan Smith, and three sisters, Kathryn Eddinger, Mae Brocious, and Ann Oches. At Fred’s request, there will be no services. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Distant.
